Europe's No.1 Electric Car 'Zoe' Lands... Starting from 22.59 Million KRW
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Renault ZOE, which has recorded the highest cumulative sales of electric vehicles in Europe, is making its debut in Korea and entering full-scale sales. When reflecting subsidies by residential area, it can be purchased for as low as 22.59 million KRW, drawing attention to whether it can accelerate the era of electric vehicle popularization.
Renault Samsung Motors officially launched the Renault ZOE at Dongdaemun DDP in Seoul on the 18th and began full-scale domestic market penetration. The ZOE is a best-selling electric vehicle that has sold about 216,000 units in the European market since its first introduction in 2012. The Renault ZOE released in Korea this time is the third-generation model that underwent a facelift last year.
Taejun Kim, Head of Sales at Renault Samsung Motors, said, “The Renault ZOE is Renault’s representative electric vehicle, condensed from over 10 years of Renault EV development experience, boasting the number one cumulative sales in the European market.” He added, “Since its product competitiveness has already been proven in the European market, we expect it to lead the popularization of electric vehicles in Korea by setting a new standard for electric vehicles based on reasonable pricing.”
The ZOE is equipped with the latest 100kW R245 motor, delivering a maximum output of 136 horsepower and a maximum torque of 25kg.m (245Nm), reaching 50km/h from a standstill in just 3.6 seconds. It is equipped with a 54.5kWh Z.E. battery, providing a driving range of 309km on a full charge (395km based on WLTP). Using a 50kW DC fast charger, it can travel approximately 150km after 30 minutes of charging. When ECO driving mode is selected, the air conditioning and heating functions are efficiently and automatically limited to maximize driving range.
The exterior design completes Renault’s design identity by smoothly connecting the contour lines of the hood to the centrally located Renault emblem on the front. The interior features the largest-in-class 10.25-inch TFT cluster and a 9.3-inch vertical touchscreen display with the ‘Easy Connect’ multimedia system on the center fascia, while climate control functions are separately applied via buttons. The interior materials also use recycled materials to enhance the eco-friendly image.
Additionally, the ZOE offers various conveniences to drivers through the Easy Connect multimedia system and the membership vehicle management application ‘My Renault’ app, allowing users to check charging and vehicle status information and perform remote control. Furthermore, all trims come equipped with ▲Lane Departure Warning System (LDW) and ▲Automatic High Beam (AHL), while the Intense and Intense Eco trims additionally feature ▲Blind Spot Warning System (BSW) and ▲Electric Park Assist (EPA).
For general maintenance, the ZOE can use the nationwide network of over 460 Renault Samsung Motors A/S centers, and for electric vehicle-specific repairs related to high-voltage batteries, it can use the nationwide 125 Renault Samsung Motors Orange Level service centers. Renault Samsung Motors guarantees 70% battery capacity for the Z.E. battery for 8 years or up to 160,000 km.
