Heavy Rain Continues on Gwangbokjeol... Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Gangwon Yeongseo Under Heavy Rain Warning
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] On August 15, Liberation Day, heavy monsoon rain is pouring in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Gangwon Yeongseo regions.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), as of 9 a.m. on the 15th, a heavy rain advisory is in effect for Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Gangwon Yeongseo. In southern Gyeonggi and southern Gangwon Yeongseo, very heavy rain of 30 to 40mm per hour accompanied by gusts and thunder and lightning is occurring.
From the previous day until 9 a.m. on this day, major rainfall amounts were 89.5mm in Daesin-myeon, Yeoju, Gyeonggi; 75.0mm in Onam-eup, Namyangju; 74.5mm in Uiwang; 65.5mm in Soha-dong, Gwangmyeong; 62.5mm in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul; 85.5mm in Nae-myeon, Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon; 78.5mm in Anheung-myeon, Hoengseong-gun; 59.0mm in Bongpyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun; and 59.0mm at Chiaksan, Wonju.
From 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on this day, hourly rainfall amounts at major points were 33.8mm in Icheon, 29.0mm in Yeoju, and 20.5mm in Hoengseong.
Due to the influence of strong rain cloud bands flowing in from the West Sea, very heavy rain will continue until the morning in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Gangwon Yeongseo. The KMA urged special caution to prevent damage such as flooding in lowlands and farmland, landslides, and retaining wall collapses.
The rain will continue until Sunday, the 16th. Afterward, the central region is expected to break free from the longest monsoon period on record.
