Urbanbase Adds 'GongganBunseok AI' to Home Interior AR App
The Combination of Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence: From Product Recommendations Suited to Spaces to AR Placement All in One App
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] The spatial data platform 'Urbanbase' announced on the 13th that it has newly revamped its home interior augmented reality (AR) app by adding 'Space AI,' a spatial analysis artificial intelligence.
With the combination of augmented reality and artificial intelligence, the entire process of recommending products that match the customer's preferred space style and placing the recommended products in the actual space can now be realized within a single app.
Since launching the 'Urbanbase AR' app in January 2018, which decorates homes using augmented reality, Urbanbase has been considering ways to continuously enhance the app's usability. They judged that focusing solely on the core AR function of 'placement' would limit the app to a one-time event-like experience, so they aimed to develop it into an AR app specialized for each user's space by adding AI curation.
Urbanbase's spatial analysis AI, 'Space AI,' is a technology that analyzes indoor space images to provide spatial information. It classifies spaces within images into four types: living room, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom, and recognizes over 90 types of objects located in the space. Based on the detected space types and object data, it analyzes the interior style and recommends products that suit that style.
By utilizing the Space AI API (Application Programming Interface), spatial analysis functions can be added not only to apps but also to web services. Space AI is currently the first external company registered on the 'SK Open API Portal,' which involves major ICT affiliates of the SK Group, and recently completed domestic patent application.
Urbanbase AR users can use Space AI by uploading images stored on their device or snapshots. By pressing the 'Space AI' button located at the top right of the app screen and uploading the image they want to analyze, the app recommends products that fit the space.
Users can select recommended products they want to try placing in the actual space and experience them through augmented reality. They can immediately check whether the recommended products suit the space and if the size fits. Urbanbase plans to continue improving the accuracy and variety of product recommendations through image learning.
Additionally, the user interface (UI) has been significantly improved to make augmented reality easier and more familiar for users. The 'Selection Box' allows real-time checking of the sizes of placeable products, and users can freely change product colors after placement to intuitively understand how products match each other.
Features such as 'Set Products,' which allow users to view and place related products at once like an offline showroom, and the 'Copy and Paste' function for products like chairs and storage units to reduce the effort of repeatedly placing the same product, have also been added.
