Gwangyang City Holds Meeting with Masters from POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Gwangyang City announced on the 11th that it held a communication meeting with master craftsmen affiliated with POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks on the 10th.
Since 2015, POSCO has been implementing the POSCO Master Craftsman Selection System to strengthen the competitiveness of field employees with world-class skills and to give preferential treatment to outstanding technical personnel.
Masters are appointed by evaluating qualifications above the level of technical master, outstanding work performance, technical skills, and contributions to the company. So far, a total of nine masters have been produced at the Gwangyang Steelworks.
At the meeting, eight masters, including Master Cho Gil-dong, who was selected as the first master in 2015, gathered and agreed to participate in efforts to overcome the regional industrial crisis through the masters' technical skills.
Jung Hyun-bok, Mayor of Gwangyang City, said, "The achievements made in Korea's industrial sector today were possible because of the masters at the center," and added, "I congratulate you on being appointed as masters through endless self-development and effort under difficult conditions, and I hope you will contribute by passing on your know-how and skills so that POSCO can grow into the world's best company."

Meanwhile, masters selected by POSCO contribute to enhancing the company's technological competitiveness through various activities such as transferring specialized technical skills, carrying out technical support projects, giving special lectures at the in-house university for new employees, and providing equipment management lectures to partner companies and clients.
