Naju City Officials Fully Committed to Flood Damage Recovery Efforts
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Han-hyuk Lee] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 11th that since the 10th, it has been urgently mobilizing over 1,100 public officials, including summer vacationers, to fully focus on flood recovery and public support.
On that day, about 250 recovery team members from the town, township, and neighborhood offices, as well as 23 departments of the city hall, were deployed across flood sites including Sinseok, Juksan, and Gaheung-ri in Dasi-myeon, Geuman-ri in Noan-myeon, Hyosim Nursing Home in Yeonggang-dong, Eel Food Street in Gujinpo, and villages and farms in Yeongsan-dong.
The recovery teams worked hard washing household items soaked in muddy rainwater and removing soil and various debris that had flooded into homes, shops, and facilities.
Local military units, related organizations, social groups, and political circles have also rushed to the recovery sites, providing wholehearted support both materially and morally.
About 300 personnel, including soldiers from the Army’s 31st Division, Naju Office of Education, the Democratic Party local committee, Dasi-myeon Volunteer Fire Brigade, Community Security Council, and employees and members of organizations such as Korea 3M Naju Plant, contributed to the recovery efforts.
The city is also thoroughly managing the aftercare of disaster victims who lost their homes due to the flood.
Following the heavy rain, 48 disaster victims have been identified, and currently, Dasi Elementary School and Naju Senior Nursing Home are being operated as temporary shelters for the victims.
The city has distributed 254 boxes of relief supplies to the victims, consisting of about 15 essential daily items for men and women, including clothing (underwear and simple clothes), blankets, mats, toiletries (toothbrushes, soap, razors), slippers, and earplugs.
The public health center is providing health services such as village disinfection, distribution of COVID-19 prevention supplies to maintain the physical and mental health of the victims, blood pressure checks, and psychological counseling.
Companies, public institutions, and social organizations are increasingly participating in the warm-hearted effort by delivering relief supplies to the disaster victim facilities.
Previously, from the 9th to the present, various consolation items have been delivered to flooded villages and temporary shelters, including 2,000 boxes of bottled water from Korea Water Resources Corporation Naju Water Management Division, snacks (milk and bread), 600 packs of ramen, and 118 boxes of relief supplies from Korea Electric Power Corporation Naju Branch, 47 boxes of relief supplies from the Korean Red Cross Naju Branch, and 3,000 boxes of bottled water from Namyang Dairy Products.

Mayor Kang In-gyu said, “The resilience of Naju citizens, who come together with strength and wisdom in times of crisis, is once again demonstrated in this disaster situation. We will actively strive to have the area designated as a special disaster zone for rapid recovery, restore agricultural products, and establish fundamental solutions to prevent flood damage in the midstream area of the Yeongsan River in advance.”
