View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The Seoul Metropolitan Government has selected 14 safety-vulnerable facilities requiring urgent repairs and will renovate them within the second half of this year.
According to the city on the 11th, the selected vulnerable facilities include the Dorimcheon access road in Guro-gu, retaining walls in Sanggye-dong, Nowon-gu, embankments along Jeongneungcheon in Seongbuk-gu, welfare facilities in Gangbuk-gu, and aging boundary walls in Cheonho-dong, Gangdong-gu.
The river access road in front of Dorimcheon Station is the main entrance used by local residents to access Dorimcheon, but due to its steep slope, it is difficult for wheelchairs or strollers to pass, and the walkway and railings are damaged, posing an accident risk. Since April, the access road has been closed, and the city plans to complete repairs on the aging facilities and reopen the access road by September.
Also, the retaining walls around Sanggye-dong, Nowon-gu, have been pointed out as urgently needing repairs due to cracks that risk collapse. Although the district office has taken temporary measures before the rainy season, repairs such as fence demolition and reinforcement are necessary, and construction will begin immediately.
The embankment upstream of Jeongneungcheon in Seongbuk-gu is a natural river embankment formed of rock and soil layers, but the soil layer is eroded every year, posing an accident risk. The city plans to install stepped retaining walls by November this year. These project sites were finalized after a local district public contest in May, followed by on-site inspections and evaluations by a safety management advisory group composed of experts in various fields.
Previously, since 2012, Seoul has been conducting repair and reinforcement projects for hazardous and aging infrastructure, having renovated 262 sites to date. In the first half of this year, a total of 18 sites were repaired with an investment of 1.2 billion KRW.
