On the 10th (Korean time), at the Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, Ohio, USA (par 71, 6,550 yards), Daniel Kang added 3 under par on the final day of the LPGA Tour Marathon Classic (total prize money $1.7 million) to complete a one-stroke victory (15 under par 269). Following last week's Drive On Championship, which resumed after a five-month hiatus due to COVID-19, this marks her second consecutive win and her fifth career victory, with a winner's prize of $255,000 (300 million KRW).
Starting four strokes behind in second place, Daniel Kang recorded six birdies and three bogeys. Up to the 12th hole, she had four birdies and three bogeys, reducing her score by only one stroke, which seemed a bit distant from victory. However, with consecutive birdies on the 13th and 14th holes, she showed strong determination by closing the gap to just one stroke behind the leader. Lydia Ko (New Zealand) suffered a critical double bogey with a '5 on 2 putts' on the final 18th hole (par 5), while Kang made a par with '4 on 1 putt,' securing a thrilling come-from-behind victory.
Daniel Kang debuted on the LPGA Tour in 2012 and won her first career title at the 2017 major KPMG Women's PGA Championship. With her Drive On Championship win, she has demonstrated consistency by becoming a champion for four consecutive years. This victory makes her the first player in three years since Feng Shanshan (China), who won back-to-back titles at the 2017 Toto Japan Classic and Blue Bay LPGA. Kang now leads in both wins and prize money (totaling $566,280).
