[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] It has been confirmed that a senior officer of the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency, who has been under suspicion of excessive investigation regarding the soy sauce company (Samhwa Food) in Daegu caught up in a 'fabricated insider whistleblowing' case, was recently summoned to the National Police Agency and underwent a lengthy interrogation.
Since June, the Major Crimes Investigation Division of the National Police Agency, which conducted a search and seizure of the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency and Seongseo Police Station, has been continuing a broad investigation into possible misconduct by related police officers. Separately, at the request of the Board of Audit and Inspection, the National Police Agency's Inspection Team is also reportedly conducting an investigation into the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency's investigation personnel.
According to police sources in Daegu, the National Police Agency recently summoned and interrogated for one night and two days a senior police officer from the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency who led the investigation into the soy sauce recycling allegations against Samhwa Food. Earlier, on June 11, the National Police Agency conducted a search and seizure of the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency and Seongseo Police Station, securing mobile phones of police officers involved in the Samhwa Food investigation and then launched an inquiry.
Regarding this, a National Police Agency official stated, "It is difficult to confirm specific details about the ongoing investigation," adding, "We are currently piecing together the puzzle and organizing the information." He further said, "This matter requires further summons and interrogation," and "Whether the case is prosecuted or not, once it is transferred to the prosecution, we will know more."
Meanwhile, the 'return recycling suspicion' case involving Samhwa Food surfaced after a video showing the production site of Samhwa Food's Seongseo factory, purportedly depicting a 'recycling scene,' was reported by a media outlet in February, prompting the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency to launch an investigation.

Subsequently, union members, including the employee who filmed the video, recanted their initial statements given to the police, claiming they were coerced by a former executive, and made a series of conscience declarations. The police, however, conducted a four-month investigation based solely on their initial statements, drawing criticism for 'targeted investigation' and 'separate investigation.'
