Increased from 2 to 3 times... Application to Galaxy A90 under review
"A series application targets to be announced after spec review"
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Samsung Electronics will extend the support period for operating system upgrades on its flagship smartphones to three times.
On the 7th, Samsung Electronics announced that it will expand the OS upgrades for flagship smartphones released after the Galaxy S10, including the Galaxy S series, Note series, and Z series, from two times to three times. Since Google releases a new Android version once a year, users will be guaranteed OS upgrades for at least three years.
The Galaxy S10, Note10, Galaxy S20, Note20, Galaxy Fold, Galaxy Z Flip, and Galaxy Z Fold2 will all receive three updates. The Galaxy S10, which comes with Android 9, is guaranteed upgrades up to the Android 12 series.
Samsung Electronics is also considering three OS upgrades for high-end Galaxy A series models. This includes the Galaxy A90 5G and other A series products.
Samsung Electronics stated, "We will announce detailed OS upgrade policies after reviewing the hardware specs and resources of the A series product lineup."
Until now, Samsung Electronics has only provided two Android OS updates. Competitor Apple announced in June that it will support iOS 14 starting from the iPhone 6S released six years ago. Google provides OS updates for two years and security updates for three years for its Pixel smartphone series.
