Heavy Rain Damage 'Snowballing'... 1,610 Displaced Persons and 8,033ha of Farmland Affected
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] The scale of damage caused by the heavy rain that struck the Seoul metropolitan area and central regions continues to grow.
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on the 5th, as of this day since the 1st, the heavy rain has resulted in 15 deaths and 11 missing persons.
The number of disaster victims continues to increase, totaling 975 households and 1,610 people. Chungbuk has the highest number with 642 people, followed by Chungnam with 465, Gyeonggi with 408, Gangwon with 90, and Seoul with 5. Among the victims, 693 households and 1,159 people are still staying at relatives' homes, gymnasiums, senior centers, and village halls.
Property damage is also increasing. Since the 1st, a total of 4,713 facility damages have been reported. Private facilities account for 2,336 cases, and public facilities for 2,377 cases.
There have been 1,289 cases of house flooding and burial, 899 cases of damage to livestock barns and warehouses, and 148 cases of damage to vinyl greenhouses. The damaged agricultural land area has increased to 8,033 hectares, including 7,224 hectares flooded and 809 hectares lost or buried.
Public facility damages include 1,016 cases of roads and bridges, 363 cases of rivers, 313 cases of landslides, 159 cases of street trees, 88 cases of water supply and sewage, 44 cases of railroads, and 43 cases of hydraulic facilities such as reservoirs and drainage channels.

Control measures are ongoing. Roads at 34 locations, including the Jamsu Bridge in Seoul and areas in Chungbuk and Gyeonggi, remain closed, and train operations on seven railway lines including the Chungbuk Line, Jungang Line, Taebaek Line, and Yeongdong Line are partially or fully suspended.
