POSCO Hosts Kim Whanki, Park Su-geun, and Lee Jung-seop... A Century-Old Company Meets a Century of Art
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] POSCO announced on the 5th that it will exhibit works by painters representing modern and contemporary Korean history, such as Kim Whanki, Park Soo-keun, and Lee Jung-seop, at the POSCO Museum located on the basement first floor of the POSCO Center in Daechi-dong until the 22nd of next month. Admission is free, and visitors can view the exhibition without a separate reservation process. The viewing hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and the museum is closed on the second and fourth Fridays. Due to social distancing measures, visitors undergo temperature checks and visit record procedures upon entry, and the number of simultaneous visitors is limited to 50. Kim Whanki (1913-1974), Park Soo-keun (1914-1965), and Lee Jung-seop (1916-1956) are artists for whom the term "master" is entirely appropriate in the history of Korean art. Having lived through the most turbulent period in early 20th-century Korean history, they devoted themselves to protecting their country, nation, family, and their own art amid war, separation, poverty, despair, parting, and longing. Through this exhibition, POSCO plans to display a total of 32 paintings (13 by Kim Whanki, 11 by Park Soo-keun, and 8 by Lee Jung-seop) along with 20 documentary materials from the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art's Art Research Center collection. Notably, all the exhibited works in this exhibition are from private collections, which is unusual. The appearance of many works that have attracted diverse interest inside and outside the art world over the past few years is expected to draw significant attention from the general public.
