'Palm Verification' Duty-Free Purchases... Korea Airports Corporation - Jeju Urban Development Center Business Agreement
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Korea Airports Corporation announced on the 4th that it signed a business agreement with Jeju International Free City Development Center (JDC) at Jeju International Airport in Jeju Island to jointly utilize the One ID biometric information (palm authentication).
One ID refers to a system that replaces boarding passes and identification cards with a single biometric information throughout the boarding process. Since 2018, Korea Airports Corporation has been implementing a system that replaces the identification verification procedure with biometric information for domestic flights at airports nationwide.
According to this collaboration between the two organizations, at the duty-free shops operated by JDC within Jeju Airport, customers can now conveniently use biometric information to make purchases after a pre-registration process, marking the world's first such implementation.
Son Chang-wan, president of the corporation, stated, "This agreement will make air travel as convenient as using the subway, and it will be a new turning point where all services within the airport can be accessed using a single biometric information in the future."
