Join the MMCA "Collection Stay-at-Home Play" Event and Donate Lunchboxes
[Asia Economy, reporter Park Byunghee] The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) is holding an online public participation event, "Collection Stay-at-Home Play," through September 6, 2020.
"Collection Stay-at-Home Play" was launched to provide an opportunity for people, who are spending more time at home due to COVID-19, to enjoy the museum's collection online and participate in efforts to overcome the pandemic.
To participate, individuals can: ▲ visit the MMCA website's event page to view nine pieces from the museum's collection, including modern masterpieces by Lee Jungseop, Jang Wookjin, Kim Jongtae, and works by contemporary artists such as Kwon Osang, Sunny Kim, and Jung Yeondoo; ▲ use easily accessible everyday materials to creatively reinterpret these works through drawing, photography, or video; and ▲ share their creations on their own Instagram or Twitter accounts with the required hashtags (#국현집콕놀이 #MMCAchallenge). Participation is also possible by simply leaving a supportive comment (#SupportingCOVID19RecoveryThroughArt) on the museum's Instagram or Twitter event post.
Participation in the event directly leads to a social contribution activity. The collective efforts of the public will provide "Love Lunchboxes" to low-income families struggling due to COVID-19, delivered through World Vision. For each recreation submitted, three lunchboxes will be donated, and for each supportive comment, one lunchbox will be donated. As public participation increases, so does the number of donated lunchboxes. The World Vision "Love Lunchbox" program provides a daily evening meal to children and adolescents under the age of 18 who are at risk of missing meals. Due to COVID-19, instead of cooked food, the program currently delivers alternative meal sets such as instant rice and ham.
A total of 111 outstanding participants who present creative and witty reinterpretations of the collection will receive cultural prizes. The collection-related prizes include framed prints of Yun Hyongkeun's "Cheongdasaek 82-86-32" and Suh Seok's "People" (10 winners); glasses cleaning cloths featuring Lee Jungseop's "Couple" and magnet sets featuring Kim Jongtae's "Yellow Jacket" or Jang Wookjin's "Magpie" (100 winners); and a pair of sneakers featuring Lee Jungseop's "Three People," created in collaboration with artist Makaju (1 winner). Prizes will be sent at random.
Youn Bum-mo, Director of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, stated, "We look forward to seeing many creative reinterpretations inspired by works from Korea's representative artists," adding, "The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art will continue to participate in overcoming the COVID-19 crisis and contribute to the recovery of a healthy society through art."
