Yangcheon District Residents Informatization Education Real-Time Online Lecture
Anyone who is a district resident can watch educational videos useful for daily life, from basic computer skills to online buying and selling, ticket booking, and kiosk usage.
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Su-young) is operating the citizen informatization education, which was suspended due to COVID-19, in a non-face-to-face manner through an online YouTube channel.
The citizen informatization education has been conducted offline every year, but it was suspended after March due to COVID-19 and has now been decided to be conducted in an online non-face-to-face class format starting from June.
For the August courses, 36 preferred lectures from the regular curriculum were selected and organized into four channels, including ▲basic computer skills such as Hangul, Excel, and PowerPoint ▲photo editing, smartphone search, video editing, social media education ▲creating GIF videos, kiosk utilization, and internet banking management.
In particular, the courses include practical topics useful in daily life such as kiosk utilization, transferring smartphone photos to a computer, using smartphone map apps, online buying and selling, and ticket booking.
The education is broadcast live online via YouTube and is available to all Yangcheon-gu residents. There are two ways to watch the education: using a smartphone or a PC. After checking the online education schedule, viewers can search for ‘Yangcheon-gu Informatization Education’ on YouTube and click the channel they want to attend, or access the district office website, go to Informatization Education - Online Courses, and click the desired subject. Since all lectures are conducted live, entry to the broadcast channel is possible 10 minutes before the start.
The biggest change brought by the introduction of the non-face-to-face education method is the guarantee of equal learning rights and convenience of attendance. Previously, due to spatial limitations, not all students who wanted to attend the citizen informatization education could do so, but online education has no limit on the number of attendees and anyone can easily participate from home. Past lectures can also be reviewed repeatedly, and real-time communication with instructors via comments maximizes educational effectiveness.

Kim Su-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, stated, “In the rapidly changing digital society due to the 4th Industrial Revolution and COVID-19, changes were needed in citizen informatization education. To bridge the digital divide for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, we have prepared many practical courses such as kiosk utilization and smartphone-related lectures,” and added, “We will further solidify non-face-to-face education to strengthen the digital capabilities of our citizens.”
