Kim Boo-kyum: "When Joo Ho-young's Gangnam house rose by 2.3 billion won, my house fell by 5 million won"
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Juhee] Kim Boo-kyum, former member of the Democratic Party of Korea running for party leader, said on the 30th to Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the United Future Party, "While the house prices in Gangnam are rising, the apartments in our neighborhood, Manchon-dong, Daegu, have slightly decreased."
Kim, in a post on his Facebook that day, said, "The floor leader of the United Future Party has made a capital gain of 2.3 billion KRW from Gangnam house prices."
Earlier, on the 26th, MBC's 'Straight' reported that after the passage of the 'Real Estate 3 Acts,' including the abolition of the price ceiling system in 2014, house prices in Gangnam skyrocketed, and Floor Leader Joo made a capital gain of 2.3 billion KRW.
Kim revealed, "In 2012, when I moved to Daegu, I sold my house in Gunpo and rented a house in Mapo. Since I was going back and forth between Daegu and Seoul for activities, I needed a place in Seoul. I had to move every two years. During those two years, the rent deposit increased by 100 million KRW. Even after breaking my savings and insurance, it was not enough, so I took out a rental deposit loan."
He pointed out, "When I finished the 20th National Assembly and filed my public official property report, I saw that the house price in Daegu had dropped by 5 million KRW. Meanwhile, the rent deposit in Seoul had risen by more than 300 million KRW."
He added, "The real estate issue is very complicated. But before assigning responsibility, I wonder how to address the sense of deprivation felt by ordinary people living in rental housing. The responsibility is heavy."
Kim urged, "We must make it impossible to make money from real estate. Strong will and signals from the government and the ruling party are necessary." He also said, "At least our party's lawmakers should keep the pledge they made when applying for the general election nomination. Among Democratic Party lawmakers, those with multiple houses should keep only one and dispose of the others within three or four months."
