Pohang City Extends 'COVID-19' Emergency Welfare Support System Until Year-End
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] Pohang City, Gyeongbuk Province, announced on the 30th that it will continue the Emergency Welfare Support System for households struggling due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) until the end of the year. Along with this, an Emergency Welfare Support Team will be formed and operated to quickly assist citizens in need.
The original target of the Emergency Welfare Support System, which was limited until the end of July, includes low-income households with a median income of 75% or less, such as daily workers, small business owners, and unpaid leave workers who are struggling to make a living due to unemployment or business suspension caused by COVID-19. However, the financial asset criterion is set at 5 million KRW or less, and those receiving support under other laws, such as National Basic Livelihood Security recipients and unemployment benefit recipients, are excluded.
The median income at 75% or less is 1,317,896 KRW for a single-person household, 2,243,985 KRW for two persons, 2,902,933 KRW for three persons, 3,561,881 KRW for four persons, and 4,220,828 KRW for five persons.
The relaxed selection criteria include ▲property standard increased from 160 million KRW to 200 million KRW ▲living preparation fund deduction rate increased from 100% to 150% (effect of raising the financial asset standard to 4.03 million KRW for a four-person household) ▲addition of new financial asset deduction items ▲abolition of the two-year restriction period on re-support for the same illness, etc.
