Seoul Metropolitan Council Democratic Party Holds Meeting with Party Leader Candidate Kim Bu-gyeom
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The Seoul Metropolitan Council's Democratic Party of Korea (Representative Assemblymen Jo Sang-ho, Seodaemun 4) held a meeting with candidate Kim Bu-gyeom, who is running for party leader ahead of the Democratic Party's national convention on August 29, at 5 p.m. on the 28th in the Press Center Press Club Hall.
Candidate Kim Bu-gyeom stated at the meeting, "This party leader must be a responsible leader who will lead the victories of the Seoul mayor, Busan mayor, and the next presidential election," and added, "I will not be complacent with the 176 seats the people have given the Democratic Party, but will utilize all my experience and capabilities for a responsible party that ensures a better life, safer life, and more equitable opportunities for the people after COVID-19, and for the Democratic Party loved evenly across the nation."
During the subsequent Q&A session, a heated discussion took place regarding the urgent issues facing the 10 million residents of Seoul, the future direction of local councils, and the path forward for the Democratic Party.
When asked about his vision on pressing issues such as the safe life of citizens after COVID-19, expansion of local autonomy, women's policies, and real estate problems, candidate Kim Bu-gyeom responded, "The newly elected leadership will bear the responsibility of the ruling party even more heavily and will actively strive to unite the people and build a nation that takes responsibility for the lives of its citizens."
He continued, "The Seoul Metropolitan Council is taking the lead in realizing true local decentralization, and I ask that you continue to keenly observe and diligently work on what the people want."

About 60 council members attended the meeting, including Seoul Metropolitan Council Chairman Kim In-ho, Vice Chairmen Kim Ki-deok and Kim Kwang-su, Representative Assemblyman Jo Sang-ho, Chair of the Steering Committee Kim Jeong-tae, along with Democratic Party Supreme Council candidate Kim Jong-min.
Seoul Metropolitan Council members unanimously requested the formulation of policies to realize local decentralization and establish the status of metropolitan councils, to which candidate Kim Bu-gyeom responded that he would strive to implement proactive policies reflecting the realities of local councils.
