Impact of COVID-19 Leads to Significant Decrease in Iksan Fire Station On-Site Rescues
Reduced Field Dispatch Compared to Last Year Due to Outdoor Activity Restrictions
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jae-hee] In the first half of this year, the Iksan Fire Station in Jeonbuk responded to a similar number of calls for citizen safety as last year, but the number of on-site rescues significantly decreased.
According to the Iksan Fire Station on the 29th, the statistics on rescue activities for the first half of this year show a total of 2,328 dispatches, with 169 people rescued on-site, a decrease of 103 from 272 people last year.
By type of incident, traffic accidents were the most frequent with 676 cases (29%), followed by animal capture with 256 cases (10.9%), and opening of locked doors with 232 cases (9.9%).
By location, road and railway incidents accounted for 841 cases (36.1%), apartment complexes 525 cases (22.5%), and detached houses 308 cases (13.2%), indicating that dispatches were more frequent in places where people are active.
By jurisdictional center, the rescue team accounted for 844 cases (36.2%), Mohyeon 272 cases (11.6%), Hamyeol 255 cases (10.9%), Inhwa 232 cases (9.9%), Palbong 203 cases (8.7%), Industrial Complex 183 cases (7.8%), and Geumma 101 cases (4.3%).
The Iksan Fire Station attributes the decrease of 141 cases from 985 last year in the rescue team’s dispatches by jurisdictional center to the enhanced rescue capabilities of the centers through regular lifestyle safety team training by type.
Additionally, mountain and water accidents occurred 12 and 8 times respectively, showing a 33% decrease compared to last year. This decline is analyzed to be due to people refraining from outdoor activities such as social distancing amid COVID-19.
Based on the analysis data from the first half, the Iksan Fire Station plans to ensure thorough lifestyle safety dispatches and devote efforts to meticulous equipment inspections and strengthening the professionalism of its personnel.
