Busan Gijang-gun Sends 'Bookstart Book Packages' to Families with Infants and Toddlers
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Busan Gijang-gun is actively carrying out the ‘Bookstart’ project, which supports book packages for households with infants and toddlers in the area.
Bookstart is a community cultural movement jointly conducted by Bookstart Korea and local governments. Gijang-gun has been actively participating in the Bookstart movement and has been implementing it in earnest since May.
The book package includes two picture books for infants and toddlers, a Bookstart bag, and a parent education guidebook. It is provided to households with infants and toddlers residing in Gijang-gun from before birth up to 18 months of age.
Benefits are given after pre-registration through the websites of the five public libraries in Gijang-gun and submission of documents such as the baby health record, ID card, and resident registration certificate.
A Gijang-gun library official said, “Especially if you apply during September, the month of reading, you can receive it free of charge via courier,” adding, “We plan to offer free courier service for households that find it difficult to visit the library due to COVID-19 and infant care.”
