Lotte Department Store Introduces Traditional Korean Restaurant 'Nampagotak' with 200 Years of History
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Lotte Department Store Gangnam Branch announced on the 29th that it will introduce the Korean restaurant 'Nampagotak,' where customers can taste Namdo noble family cuisine, in collaboration with 'Nampagotak,' a traditional house in Naju, Jeonnam, with a history of 200 years.
The Nampagotak Korean restaurant presented by Lotte Department Store Gangnam Branch is the first of its kind in Korea. Previously, since 2017, Lotte Department Store has collaborated with Nampagotak to release a limited edition gift set of traditionally made '200-year-old soy sauce and doenjang limited set' during holidays. This was an opportunity to commercialize the heirloom dishes of Nampagotak and widely promote the culture and value of the noble family, which eventually led to the collaboration on the Korean restaurant.
All menus at Nampagotak are based on 200-year-old traditional soy sauce and doenjang, and are made with ingredients from Naju using the heirloom culinary secrets of Jongbu Kang Jeongsuk and Cha-jongbu (daughter-in-law) Kim Seon-gyeong. Signature menus include the banquet table served to elders and guests, a two-person guest table, and a children's single table. Side dishes feature representative heirloom dishes of the noble family such as jangjorim (soy-braised beef), yukjeon (pan-fried beef), eojun (fish jeon), and bandongchimi (radish kimchi).
As important as the soy sauce, kimchi and meat are produced using Nampagotak's secret recipes in manufacturing facilities certified by the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system. Other ingredients are sourced from production sites nationwide that preserve the unique taste of Nampagotak as much as possible.
In addition, alongside the soy sauce and doenjang, which were previously only available as holiday gift sets, ready-to-eat home meal kits including kimchi, side dishes, and desserts that can be enjoyed at home are also sold.
