30-Year-Old Sentenced to 2 Years in Prison for "Selling Masks" Scam
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] A man in his 30s who deceived victims by claiming to sell masks during the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and embezzled money was sentenced to prison.
On the 29th, Judge Jeong Wan of the Seoul Northern District Court Criminal Division 11 announced that he sentenced A (34), who was indicted on charges of fraud, to two years in prison.
A was charged with embezzling about 19 million won by posting "Buying masks" on an online secondhand trading site from March 2 to 14, approaching victims with the method of "If you transfer money first, I will send the goods," and only taking the money.
A is also accused of receiving 37.37 million won in 10 installments from another victim in February this year, claiming, "If you lend me money, I will invest in Bitcoin and repay all the previously borrowed amounts."

The court explained the sentencing reason, saying, "The defendant has a history of being punished for fraud using similar methods but continues to commit fraud crimes and has not yet repaid most of the damages, among other factors."
