Jeonju City and Munhwa Salon Connect Citizens with Handicraft Culture
Handicraft Class "Connecting People to People" Held
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jaehee] Jeonju City in Jeollabuk-do has mobilized handicraft artists to enhance the value of traditional handicraft culture and revitalize the sharing economy.
On the 28th, the city and the Culture Salon held a handicraft class titled "Connecting People" at the Culture Salon in Songcheon-dong, provided as a cultural sharing space, as part of a pilot project for the sharing economy, sharing handicraft culture with citizens.
At the handicraft class, about 10 residents participated in the program "Making an Owl Wreath That Brings Luck," creating interior accessories together with local Jeonju handicraft artists.
The participating handicraft artists were provided with a shared space to carry out their creative activities and shared their talents with citizens in the form of talent donation, while residents had the opportunity to experience handicraft culture, which is not easily accessible in daily life.
This program did not charge a participation fee but raised donations to help children in the local community, adding a spirit of community.
The city and Culture Salon plan to continue cultural sharing activities by exhibiting handicrafts in the shared space and linking with local children's centers to promote a "Healing Woodcraft Class for the Mind" for children exhausted by COVID-19.
The city expects the cultural sharing space to be used not only as a base for handicraft artists but also as an exhibition space for works by artists and residents, further activating it as a community space utilizing culture.
Kim Jongseong, Director of the Social Solidarity Support Division, said, "We will continue to support discovering various sharing models such as shared workshops and shared kitchens and activate sharing economy projects at the community level," adding, "We will also strive for new attempts such as building sharing platforms using IT technology."
