Classic Specialty Channel 'Stingray Classica' Switches to Domestic Channel... Strengthening Curating
Broadcast of August Met Opera's Carmen and Yevgeny Onegin
[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] The classical music specialty channel 'Stingray Classica' will transition to a domestic channel on the 30th, seeking a new leap forward.
Stingray Classica is a classical music specialty channel that broadcasts concerts by world-renowned classical artists, live performances by Europe's top orchestras, and opera and ballet performances from famous opera houses worldwide. Stingray Classica announced that with the transition to a domestic channel, it plans to strengthen its content curation service and present a more diverse lineup of programs favored by domestic classical music enthusiasts.
First, in August, it will showcase works from the New York Metropolitan (Met) Opera, considered a dream stage for vocalists worldwide. Every Friday afternoon, under the theme 'Opera Night,' it plans to broadcast operas beloved by Koreans such as 'Carmen (2019)' and 'Eugene Onegin (2017),' starring star soprano Anna Netrebko. Additionally, to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth, it will feature performances of Beethoven's piano sonatas by Daniel Barenboim, a world-renowned pianist and music director of the Berlin Staatskapelle, known as a 'Beethoven specialist.' It will also present the film music concert 'The Morricone Duel,' performed at the DR Concert Hall in Copenhagen, Denmark, in honor of the late film music maestro Ennio Morricone, who passed away on the 6th of this month.
Stingray Classica also plans to produce and broadcast classical music talk shows and performances.
The classical music talk show 'I Want to Know Classical Music,' which will premiere at 10 PM on the 5th of next month, will be hosted by pianist Inmo Ahn, the top-ranked podcast host in the classical music category, and composer Dave Near. They will answer viewers' questions about classical music to help deepen understanding. The show will cover the background of classical music's birth, storytelling about musicians representing each era, and invite currently active classical musicians to share music stories and performances.
In the first episode, soprano Sumi Jo, who has held the position of prima donna at the world’s top level for 30 years and represents Korea, will appear. The second episode will feature cellist Jinho Hong from the JTBC 'Superband' winning team Hopipolla, and the third episode will include broadcaster Hyunmo Ahn, the younger brother of the program's MC Inmo Ahn, who simultaneously interpreted the North America summit and the Oscars ceremony.
The 'ODE PORT Live,' airing at 10 PM on the 6th of next month, is a small-scale salon concert held at Ode Port, a complex cultural space located in Sinsa-dong. This performance, prepared by the performance planning company Bom Art Project, is intended for audiences who cannot enjoy concerts as before due to social distancing caused by COVID-19. A small audience will be invited to the performance venue. The first broadcast will feature baritone Eungkwang Lee and guest Wan-sun Kim, followed by salon concerts showcasing the unique charms of violinist Jungyun Yang and pianist Hanbin Jung.
