Gochang-gun Launches Full-Scale Livestock Quarantine in Summer Season
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jae-gil] Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk Province announced on the 27th that it has designated the period until September as the summer livestock quarantine management period and has begun full-scale quarantine activities.
The county is actively guiding and promoting to farms to secure drainage channels to prevent flood damage such as livestock barn flooding, conduct self-inspections of facilities around barns, and thoroughly manage temperature, ventilation, and feeding to prevent livestock disasters during the hot and humid weather.
Regarding African Swine Fever, since September last year, the county has continuously operated a quarantine countermeasure situation room and key disinfection facilities to maintain a constant quarantine system for African Swine Fever and Foot-and-Mouth Disease.
This year as well, using three joint prevention teams, they conduct intensive disinfection in vulnerable areas and use public health veterinarians to administer Foot-and-Mouth Disease vaccines to small-scale farms as needed.
To strengthen farm-level blocking quarantine, 31 dedicated public officials will be mobilized to conduct comprehensive inspections of pig farms.

A Gochang-gun official said, “As the summer rainy season and heat wave are expected to continue for a long time, farms should thoroughly manage livestock stress and damage by forced ventilation of barns and supplying fresh water and feed,” adding, “By managing livestock disease quarantine and strengthening the constant quarantine system, economic damage to livestock farms can be minimized.”
