Busan City Launches 'Citywide Food Culture Improvement Campaign' to Prevent COVID-19 Spread
On 28th, 16 Districts, Dining Industry Groups, and Civic Organizations Participate in Citywide Event
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A large-scale campaign to change food culture and fight against the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) is being launched.
Busan City announced on the 27th that it will hold the "COVID-19 Overcome Pan-Citizen Food Culture Improvement Campaign" at 3 p.m. on the 28th to promote the practice of dining-out life quarantine rules.
The campaign will involve about 1,600 participants including Acting Mayor Byeon Seong-wan of Busan, Shin Sang-hae, Chairman of the Busan City Council, representatives from 16 districts and counties, dining industry organizations, and civic movement groups.
This campaign will be held simultaneously at major locations in each of the 16 districts and counties to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to comply with social distancing. Busan City plans to conduct the campaign at the City Hall Green Square together with Yeonje District.
The event will proceed in order with a ceremony for distributing shared side dish containers, a pledge to practice food culture improvement, and a street campaign targeting nearby restaurants and citizens around City Hall.
Acting Mayor Byeon Seong-wan and Chairman Shin Sang-hae will visit nearby restaurants to personally present shared side dish containers and other gifts.
Each district and county will also launch simultaneous campaigns at places where many citizens gather, such as Busan Station Plaza, Gwangbok-ro, and Seomyeon Munhwa-ro area. The city expects this campaign to serve as an opportunity to greatly spread the atmosphere of food culture improvement.
Acting Mayor Byeon Seong-wan said, "We hope not only dining industry organizations and business owners but also citizens will participate to create a safe dining environment."
Prior to this, on the 27th, Acting Mayor Byeon Seong-wan plans to visit safe restaurants with dining industry representatives to attach signboards. Safe restaurants are those that practice the three key tasks for COVID-19 prevention so that citizens can use them with confidence.
