Galaxy Note20 S Pen Evolves into a 'Laser Pointer'
Pointer Color, Size, and Speed Can Be Set
Spotlight Mode Also Brightens Only the Pointer Area
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The S Pen of the Galaxy Note20, launching next month, will be usable as a laser pointer.
On the 26th (local time), the YouTube channel JimmyIsPromo introduced a video demonstrating the pointer function of the Galaxy Note20's S Pen. Going a step beyond the 'Air Action' introduced in the Galaxy Note10, users can set the desired color, size, and speed to use the S Pen effectively during presentations.
By pressing and holding the S Pen button and shaking the pen, it can be used as a pointer. Pressing the S Pen button is similar to clicking a mouse on a PC, allowing screen navigation and movement over short distances. Moving the S Pen while holding the button activates scroll mode, moving the smartphone screen up and down. Double-clicking the button switches to 'Spotlight Mode,' where the surroundings darken and only the pointer area is highlighted with a bright circle.

View original imageCombining this with Samsung's DeX mode is expected to increase its utility. IT tipster Max Weinbach has predicted that the Galaxy Note20 will support DeX wirelessly. DeX is a feature that allows the smartphone screen to be displayed on a PC or TV monitor, which until now only supported wired connections. Being able to use the pointer function while wirelessly connecting the smartphone and monitor will enable more efficient presentations.
The S Pen's response speed is also significantly reduced to 9ms. However, only the Ultra model supports the S Pen with a 9ms latency, while the standard model is likely to support around 26ms latency.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Note20 will be unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked event on August 5. The Galaxy Note20 will be released in flat-screen versions with almost no edge, measuring 6.7 inches and 6.9 inches for the Ultra model. The camera supports 108 million pixels for the Ultra model and 64 million pixels for the standard model. Zoom functionality supports up to 50x on the Ultra, while the standard model supports only up to 3x optical zoom. It is also expected to offer the Xbox Game Pass to use Microsoft's cloud gaming. It will be officially released in Korea on the 21st of next month.
