Jungnang-gu, Book Delivery Service for Pregnant Women and Infants
Jungnang-gu Rimyeonmok Information Library Expands 'Chaegai Service' for Pregnant Women and Infants Amid Prolonged COVID-19 Pandemic
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is expanding the operation of the ‘Chaeg-ai Service’ for pregnant women and infants who are experiencing inconvenience in using libraries due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The ‘Chaeg-ai Service’ is a service that delivers books to homes to enable pregnant women, guardians of infants under 24 months old, and infants under 24 months who find it difficult to visit libraries due to COVID-19 to read books more conveniently.
The maximum number of books that can be borrowed is five per person, and they are delivered free of charge throughout Jungnang-gu. The loan period is up to three weeks, and when returning, a courier collects the books on the scheduled date.
Since its launch in 2017, the ‘Chaeg-ai Service’ has expanded its user base due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, it was only available to infants under 12 months, but since June, it has been available to infants under 24 months.
Additionally, borrowed books are disinfected with a book sterilizer before delivery, and to reduce the use of disposable items caused by courier packaging, books are delivered in cloth bags instead of wrapping paper.
Applications for the service can only be made by visiting the Jungnang-gu Lifelong Learning Center Myeonmok Library in person. Pregnant women need to bring an ID card, pregnancy confirmation certificate, and maternity handbook, while guardians of infants under 24 months must bring a resident registration certificate. Once registered, users can apply for book delivery on the Jungnang-gu Lifelong Learning Center Myeonmok Library website.
