LG Electronics to Release 'Large Capacity Styler' After 2 Years
S5MPC Radio Certification Acquired
Official Launch Expected Next Month
Differentiated Steam and AI Utilization
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] LG Electronics' flagship clothing care device, the 'Tromm Styler,' is expected to launch its new model as early as next month. It is reported to feature enhanced steam functions and expanded use of artificial intelligence (AI) compared to previous models.
According to industry sources on the 23rd, LG Electronics recently obtained radio certification for the new Styler model (model name: S5MPC) from the National Radio Research Agency. Considering that market sales usually begin within a month after radio certification, an official launch is expected within next month.
The model classification code starting with 'S5' suggests a large-capacity Styler capable of managing five upper garments. This will be the first new product introduced in about two years since the second half of 2018.
The large-capacity Styler can manage a total of six garments at once, including five upper garments and one lower garment. Notably, the large-capacity models have gained popularity among domestic consumers, with their cumulative sales share in Korea increasing from 55% in January this year to 70% last month.
Inside and outside the industry, it is anticipated that the new product will significantly enhance hygiene management functions such as virus elimination and sterilization in response to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, LG Electronics announced that its steam sterilization can remove over 99.99% of viruses from KF-certified masks for quarantine purposes without damaging their functionality. The core technology of the Styler, TrueSteam, which boils water at 100 degrees Celsius, efficiently manages deodorization, sterilization, and wrinkle reduction of garments.
The new model is also expected to diversify downloadable courses using AI and wireless internet (Wi-Fi) and add broader remote control functions. In addition to existing courses for cotton, leather, fur, silk, and wool materials, more finely segmented care courses may be added.
Low power management features are also noteworthy. Although clothing care devices are not yet included in the government’s top-efficiency appliance rebate program, low-power products are gaining popularity as consumers increasingly prefer products with the highest energy efficiency rating. The maximum power consumption of previously released Stylers is 1700W.
