[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Choi Hyun-joo] Changwon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 22nd that it will adjust the vehicle driving speed on main roads in the city to 60km/h.
On the same day, the city held a final report meeting on the feasibility study for lowering speed limits on city roads at the second-floor conference room of the 2nd annex building, attended by about 20 people including police, the Road Traffic Authority, related organizations, and advisory committee members.
The report meeting was held in accordance with the amendment of the Road Traffic Act Enforcement Rules, which is scheduled to be implemented from April next year, changing the urban area traffic speed to the "Safe Speed 5030" policy, based on the feasibility study.
The main arterial roads in the city center will be lowered from the existing 70km/h to 60km/h, while some secondary arterial roads and collector roads will either maintain the existing 60km/h or be reduced to 50~30km/h.
Based on the city's study results, the competent police station will decide the speed limits and implement them after a public notice process. Installation of traffic safety facilities will be completed on arterial roads by the second half of this year and on side roads by April next year.
