View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Lotte Mart announced on the 22nd that it will offer 'Russian Brown King Crab' at a special price. The 'Russian Brown King Crab' is the third special-priced crustacean product following lobster and snow crab introduced since June.
Lotte Mart will sell 'Russian Brown King Crab (100g)' for 3,890 KRW from the 23rd to the 26th, a period of four days. The regular price is 4,800 KRW per 100g, L.Point members can purchase it for 4,320 KRW, and customers paying with promotional cards (Lotte/Shinhan/KB Kookmin/NH Nonghyup cards) can buy it for 3,890 KRW.
The Brown King Crab is known for its distinctive bright brown color and is also called the Golden King Crab overseas. It is mainly caught during the period between the peak seasons of the 'Blue King Crab' (January to July) and the 'Red King Crab' (autumn and winter), resulting in a low annual quota and limited import volume, making it a rare king crab.
Lotte Mart planned in advance with the country's largest live crab importer, purchasing a total volume of 13 tons in bulk to reduce prices. Additionally, to maintain the king crab's freshness, live crabs will be directly delivered to about 100 stores.
Meanwhile, the popularity of crustaceans has been increasing every year. Looking at Lotte Mart's annual crustacean sales from 2018 to June 2020, growth rates were 9.6% in 2018, 12.4% in 2019, and 24.7% this year. The 200,000 lobsters and 24 tons of snow crab prepared by Lotte Mart in June were sold out.
