Namyang Research Center Visited by Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong... "Hyundai Kia Motors R&D Incubator"
[Asia Economy Reporter Woo Su-yeon] Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong and Hyundai Motor Group Executive Vice Chairman Chung Eui-sun met again after about two months on the 21st at Hyundai Kia Motors' Namyang Technology Research Center.
The Namyang Technology Research Center of Hyundai Kia Motors, visited by the two leaders on this day, is the cradle of Hyundai Kia Motors' research and development (R&D), responsible for all vehicle-applied technologies such as powertrain, design, and electronic components. Recently, it has expanded its scope to eco-friendly electric vehicle batteries and autonomous driving, leading the development of new technologies to dominate the global automobile market.
Established in 1986 by reclaiming the Namyang Bay reclamation site in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, the Namyang Research Center was founded as a comprehensive technology research center on a site of approximately 3.47 million square meters (about 1.05 million pyeong), equipped with a driving test track and auxiliary facilities. Subsequently, in 1995, Design Building 1 and the Engine & Transmission Building were added; in 1999, a full-scale wind tunnel test facility; and in 2004, a design research center were constructed. In 2003, Hyundai Motor's Ulsan Research Center and Kia Motors' Sohari Research Center were integrated into one large-scale research complex.
