Ahn Cheol-soo: "President Moon, Please Clarify Whether You Are Considering Lifting the Greenbelt"
"Greenbelt Release Should Not Be Decided Unilaterally by the Government"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party, stated on the 20th, “I hope President Moon Jae-in will clarify whether he is considering utilizing military-owned land and lifting the Greenbelt as part of the plan to expand housing supply.”
At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Ahn said, “Lifting the Greenbelt is a serious issue,” and added, “It is not something that should be decided unilaterally by the government.”
He pointed out, “The opinions of the opposition party must be heard, and national consensus and agreement are necessary. The use of limited national land should be reviewed and judged not at the regime level but within the country’s land strategy and future sustainability. This is not an area to be considered simply to cover up and supplement the failure of real estate policies.”
He continued, “In a situation where everything is decided at the Blue House, stop hiding behind a figurehead prime minister and ministers. I find it difficult to understand why the president, as the head of the executive branch, remains silent about the failure of core policies like real estate policy and the improvement measures.”
Ahn targeted Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae, saying, “Please also organize government and ruling party personnel who are stirring up confusion. If they have their own opinions, they should fiercely express them at the Cabinet meeting, but if they make their own claims on SNS about areas outside their jurisdiction, they should resign from their ministerial positions.”

Ahn said, “Politicians and Cabinet members should have different responsibilities and areas, and their conduct should differ as well. If they freely cross the boundaries between politics, government, and personal domains without distinction and cause confusion among the public, they should be held accountable.”
