Busan City is recruiting an additional 38 businesses and 38 young people by July 24 to participate in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s regional-led youth employment project, the ‘Youth Employment-Friendly MICE Ecosystem Creation Project.’
Started in 2018, this project will have a total budget of 2.88 billion KRW (1.44 billion KRW from the national government, 1.186 billion KRW from the city, and 254 million KRW from companies) including an additional 300 million KRW from the government’s supplementary budget in the second half of this year.
Until June, 46 MICE companies and 114 young people participated in the project, pledging to overcome COVID-19. However, to normalize the tourism and MICE industries still struggling with management crises, additional support is being provided.
The application period is until 4 p.m. on the 24th, and applicants can apply via email, visit, or mail by referring to the announcement on the Busan City website.
Eligible businesses include international conference planning, exhibition planning, event planning, and event agency companies related to tourism and MICE located in Busan, as well as IT companies related to meeting technology in line with the trend of hybrid event activation. Eligible youth applicants are unemployed citizens aged 39 or younger as of January 1 of this year with a Busan address.
The city will accept applications until the 24th, announce the selection results around the 28th after review by the screening committee, and then the executing agency, Busan Tourism MICE Promotion Association, will match businesses and youth, with work starting in August.
Selected businesses will receive support for labor costs for one newly employed young person, basic education, job training, consulting, and networking to strengthen bonds between the industry and youth.
Byun Sung-wan, Acting Mayor of Busan, said, “This is a meaningful project that supports the tourism and MICE industries in the region hit by COVID-19 to overcome the crisis and provides jobs for young people.”
