View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced on the 16th that it will hold an emergency meeting with the private members of the Committee for the Prevention of Violence Against Women at 12 PM on the 17th at the Government Seoul Office.
This meeting will discuss the recent case involving the late Park Won-soon, former Mayor of Seoul. The focus will be on protecting victims and preventing the recurrence of similar incidents.
The meeting will be attended by the Minister of Gender Equality and Family, the Vice Minister, the Director General for Rights Enhancement, and private members including Choi Geum-sook, Chairperson of the Korean Women's Associations United, Professor Lee Soo-jung of Kyonggi University, Jung Eun-ja, Chairperson of the National Sexual Violence Counseling Center Association, and Jang Hyung-yoon, Director of the Kyonggi Southern Sunflower Center. The purpose is to gather diverse opinions from private members.
The Committee for the Prevention of Violence Against Women is an organization that deliberates and coordinates important matters related to policies for preventing violence against women. It is composed of about 30 members, including the Minister of Gender Equality and Family as the chairperson, vice ministers, government officials at the vice minister level, and private members.
Minister of Gender Equality and Family Lee Jung-ok stated, "Our society must empathize with the mental shock and difficulties experienced by victims due to secondary damage occurring in a series of recent incidents, and all members must make their best efforts to help them return to daily life. Based on today's emergency meeting, we will supplement protection measures for victims and prevention of recurrence through practical consultations among related ministries," she said.
