Gwangju University Selected for 'University Sports Academic Management Operation Support Project'
The Only University in the Honam Region
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju University (President Kim Hyukjong) announced on the 16th that it has been selected for the ‘2020 University Sports Academic Management Support Program Operation Support Project.’
It is the only university in the Honam region.
The ‘University Sports Academic Management Support Program Operation Support Project,’ hosted by the Korea University Sports Federation (KUSF) and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, is a project that supports tutoring programs to help student-athletes in university sports teams adapt to school life and perform academically.
In this support project, 11 universities nationwide, including Gwangju University, Kyung Hee University, and Korea University, were selected.
Kim Sangyeop, head of the Physical Education Department at Gwangju University, said, “Our university received high scores in the evaluation for this support project selection for establishing a proper academic foundation for university student-athletes and operating excellent programs,” adding, “We will continue to actively support students so that they can smoothly balance academics and sports.”

Meanwhile, the Korea University Sports Federation (KUSF) plans to develop and operate an academic management support program model tailored to each university’s characteristics based on the pilot operation of the university sports academic management support program over the past two years, which includes ▲student-athlete academic management (assignments, exams, supplementary classes, etc.) ▲school life (course registration, attendance management, lecture information provision, etc.) ▲personal capacity-building education (writing, computer skills, etc.).
