Gunsan City Conducts Vaccination for Fall Season Outbreak of 'New Syndrome Hemorrhagic Fever' Prevention
Until September, for citizens with many outdoor activities
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jaehee] The Gunsan City Public Health Center in Jeonbuk is launching a vaccination campaign against Hantavirus Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome to protect the health of citizens who engage in frequent outdoor activities.
On the 16th, the city health center announced that it will intensively conduct Hantavirus Hemorrhagic Fever vaccinations until September, targeting citizens who frequently engage in outdoor activities such as soldiers and agricultural workers.
Hantavirus Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome is transmitted by hantaviruses and is mainly contracted in the fall through respiratory or wound contact with the excreta of infected field mice or house mice.
Symptoms of this disease include fever, bleeding tendency, back pain, and renal failure. Recently, the mortality rate remains relatively high at 2%, so vaccination is recommended for high-risk groups such as soldiers, farmers, laboratory personnel handling mice, and those frequently involved in outdoor activities.
The vaccination schedule requires two doses at one-month intervals, followed by an additional dose 12 months later, totaling three doses for lifetime immunity.
