Requests for Bitcoin Transfers on Twitter Accounts of Famous American Celebrities
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-gyu Lee] While the Twitter accounts of former U.S. President Barack Obama and Microsoft (MS) founder Bill Gates were hacked one after another, no hacking damage cases have been reported domestically yet.
According to foreign media on the 16th, on the 15th (local time), posts appeared on the official Twitter accounts of famous figures such as former President Obama stating, "Send $1,000 (about 1.2 million won) in Bitcoin within 30 minutes, and we will return double the amount," which were later deleted.
The hacking damage also included Twitter accounts of Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, and Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon. In addition, posts demanding Bitcoin transfers appeared on the official Twitter accounts of Uber and Apple. It is reported that Bitcoin worth more than $100,000 was transferred to the Bitcoin address posted by the hackers.

Twitter stated that it judged this as a clear hacking incident and is working to resolve the issue. The stock price of Twitter fell 2.3% in U.S. over-the-counter trading following the hacking.
