Seoul Central District Court Orders 10 Million Won Compensation from Malicious Commenter Defaming Choi Tae-won's Cohabitant
[Asia Economy Reporter Won Dara] The Seoul Central District Court has ruled that a malicious commenter who defamed Choi Tae-won, chairman of SK Group's cohabitant, must pay 10 million won in damages. Previously, the first trial court sentenced 30 million won.
The 9-2 Civil Appeal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judges Jeong Cheol-min, Ma Eun-hyeok, and Kang Hwa-seok) on the 15th ruled in favor of the plaintiff in the damages appeal lawsuit filed by Chairman Choi's cohabitant Kim against netizen A, ordering "payment of 10 million won."
From June 2016 to the end of the same year, A left multiple comments defaming Kim on articles related to Chairman Choi and Kim.
The first trial court stated, "A wrote comments on the information and communication network targeting Kim with the intent to defame her, lowering her social value and evaluation," and ruled, "It is clear that Kim suffered mental distress due to A's illegal acts. A must pay Kim 30 million won."
