Lotte Chemical Wins 3 Awards at 2020 Red Dot Design Award
Asia Economy reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Lotte Chemical announced that it won a total of three awards, including the ‘Best of the Best’ at the 2020 Red Dot Design Award.
Started in 1955, the Red Dot Design Award is organized by the Design Center of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany and is considered one of the world's top three industrial design awards alongside the American IDEA (International Design Excellence Awards) and the German iF (International Forum) Design Award.
This year’s awards evaluated approximately 4,200 mass-produced and soon-to-be mass-produced products worldwide, with only 42 companies honored with the ‘Best of the Best’ award.
The three awarded materials are transparent materials with excellent optical properties, combined with various manufacturing methods to create new lighting effects that did not exist before, offering design solutions applicable to autonomous driving mobility, AI-equipped ICT, home appliances, and more, where lighting is emphasized.
The ‘Best of the Best’ winning 'Multi layered 3D Lighting Effect' combined transparent materials with a fusion method called laser welding to express unexpected light refraction and pattern effects. The ‘Winner’ awards for 'Kiriko Effect' and 'Moire Effect' also realized unique appearances and lighting effects through the combination of surface patterns on transparent materials and light.
Lee Young-jun, head of the Advanced Materials Division, said, “This award is an example of Lotte Chemical’s efforts to maximize the aesthetics of advanced products’ functionality,” adding, “We will strive further to develop differentiated designs and satisfy customer needs through more systematic and continuous trend analysis.”
