Incheon City 'COVID-19 Overcome' Hope Job Project... Provided to 17,000 People Over 4 Months
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City is providing the largest-ever scale of public jobs to vulnerable groups struggling due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) crisis.
The city announced on the 13th that it will invest 75.6 billion won in budget to fully implement about 17,000 Hope Job projects over four months from August to November.
The types of projects include 10 fields and over 180 detailed projects such as daily quarantine support, public work support, local government specialized projects, environmental maintenance in industrial cluster areas, and improvement of public rest spaces.
Participants in the Hope Job projects will work 15 to 40 hours per week for 5 days a week over approximately 4 months and receive a monthly wage of 670,000 to 1,800,000 won based on the minimum hourly wage (8,590 won). They will also be enrolled in the four major social insurances.
Eligibility for application is Incheon citizens aged 18 or older who have the ability to work and belong to vulnerable employment groups or have lost jobs or closed businesses due to COVID-19.
The recruitment quota is 2,000 people for Incheon City (including direct agencies, business offices, and affiliated public institutions) and 15,049 people for the military and districts. The city accepts participation applications via visits or email through the website, business offices, and public institutions, and through administrative welfare centers for the military and districts.

An official from Incheon City said, "Although temporary, we hope the Hope Job projects will provide economic help to citizens who are facing great difficulties due to COVID-19," adding, "In the future, we will prepare various jobs for vulnerable groups not only through government policies but also independently by the city itself."
