According to the AP News and others, WHO reported in its daily situation report that the number of new COVID-19 cases reported worldwide in the past 24 hours was 230,370. This far surpasses the previous highest daily confirmed cases of over 228,000 recorded on the 10th.
By continent, the Americas had the highest number with 142,992 cases, followed by Southeast Asia (33,173), Europe (18,804), and Africa (17,884). By country, the United States reported the most new confirmed cases in the past 24 hours with 66,281. Additionally, cases are rapidly increasing in Brazil, India, and South Africa.
The number of deaths continues to exceed 5,000 per day.
