View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The election campaign for the next Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), in which Yoo Myung-hee, the Chief Negotiator for Trade, is participating, has begun.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 10th that Chief Negotiator Yoo Myung-hee will attend the WTO Special General Council scheduled to be held in Geneva, Switzerland from the 15th to the 17th, and will present her policy platform as a candidate. Chief Negotiator Yoo will depart on the 12th.
As a result of candidate registration conducted from the 8th of last month to the 8th of this month, eight candidates, including Chief Negotiator Yoo, have registered.
At this Special General Council, the eight candidates will present their policy platforms in the order of registration and engage in a Q&A session with key attendees of the council.
The Special General Council will be held in private with ambassadors of WTO member countries stationed in Geneva attending. Each candidate will present their policy platform for 15 minutes, followed by a 75-minute Q&A session.
After the policy presentations, each candidate will undergo a campaign period.
The consultation process among member countries for electing the next WTO Director-General will begin on September 7.

The specific procedures, including the consultation methods and schedule among member countries, will be decided by the Chair of the General Council (David Walker, Ambassador of New Zealand) after consultations with member countries.
