The United Future Party Takes First Step with Future Industry and Jobs Special Committee... "Transforming Korea's Economic Structure from 'Follower' to 'Leader'"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 7th, the United Future Party held the first meeting of the Special Committee on Future Industry Jobs to address job issues in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
Kim Jong-in, Emergency Committee Chairman of the United Future Party, said at the first meeting of the Special Committee on Future Industry Jobs held at the National Assembly that “There are many concerns about whether jobs will disappear and new jobs will be created with the introduction of artificial intelligence and robots in the upcoming 4th Industrial Revolution era,” adding, “It seems that the era when technological development simultaneously created many jobs, as in the past, will not come again.”
Chairman Kim stated, “In the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, jobs requiring high-level expertise will be necessary,” and requested, “Please make efforts through the special committee on how to secure such jobs.”
Jo Myung-hee, a United Future Party lawmaker and chairperson of the special committee, pointed out, “Major countries recognize the 4th Industrial Revolution as a key factor to enhance national competitiveness and are responding quickly and actively by establishing institutional infrastructure and support policies. In contrast, our country is falling behind in discovering future growth engines,” adding, “Especially, we are unable to break free from the framework of regulations, which is even holding us back compared to latecomers like China.”

Lawmaker Jo said, “The same applies to job policies. To fundamentally reform the Korean economy, which faces limits in government-led growth models and weakened basic strength, a long-term national strategy on how to effectively concentrate resources must be presented,” and emphasized, “By seizing the 4th Industrial Revolution era as an opportunity, we must transform the Korean economy’s structure from a follower to a leader and create a dynamic environment. Only then can national competitiveness be strengthened and job creation be possible.”
