Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Selected as an Excellent Institution in 'Disaster Management Evaluation'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Samho) announced on the 30th that it was selected as an excellent institution with a score of 95.22 in the '2020 Disaster Management Evaluation' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
As a result, Gwangsan-gu secured the Minister's Award, a special grant of 100 million KRW, and a prize money of 5 million KRW.
The Disaster Management Evaluation has been conducted since 2005 under the 'Disaster and Safety Management Basic Act' to diagnose and improve the disaster management capabilities of disaster management responsible institutions and to raise the level of disaster management at the national level.
This year's evaluation examined the disaster management performance based on 34 indicators including common, prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery for 325 disaster management responsible institutions nationwide, including central government ministries, public institutions, and local governments.
Last year, the district achieved various results by expanding financial investment plans in the disaster safety field, providing specialized training for disaster and safety management officers, promoting safety education and cultural campaigns, improving crisis management manuals by disaster type, and revitalizing the autonomous disaster prevention group.

Kim Samho, Mayor of Gwangsan-gu, said, "This is the result of recognizing and practicing the necessity of disaster management through public-private cooperation to create a citizen-centered safety-first city," and added, "We will reinvest the special grant awarded into safety and disaster sectors such as COVID-19 and summer natural disaster response to further strengthen the foundation of Safe Gwangsan."
