Juirak Embassy: "Korean COVID-19 Related Deaths Occurred"
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The Korean Embassy in Iraq announced on the 28th (local time) that a Korean national has died due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The Korean Embassy conveyed this through a safety notice posted on its website that day. It also added that among the Koreans who returned from Iraq to Korea on UN special flights on the 11th and 21st, 10 have been confirmed positive so far.
The deceased and confirmed cases are dispatched employees of a Korean construction company and its subcontractors working at a construction site on the outskirts of Baghdad, Iraq. It is known that about 100 Korean employees who did not return on the special flights still remain at the site.

The Korean Embassy stated, "Iraq lacks treatment facilities and it is difficult to secure hospital beds since the outbreak of COVID-19," and urged, "Since it can be assumed that infected employees are already working at construction sites in Iraq, please strictly adhere to COVID-19 prevention guidelines."
