According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 28th, the 3.5 km (4 lanes) section of National Road No. 37 in Cheongsan-myeon, Yeoncheon-gun, opening at 4 p.m. on the 30th, is the final section of the 13.9 km 'Jeongok-Yeongjung Road Construction' connecting Cheongsan-myeon, Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi Province to Yeongjung-myeon, Pocheon City.
This road project began in 2009 and a total of 180.7 billion KRW was invested over about 10 years.
With this opening, the east-west axis expansion and improvement project (Paju to Gapyeong) in the northern Gyeonggi region, which has been promoted step-by-step over the past 20 years, has been fully completed.
The northern Gyeonggi border area, which has many military bases causing frequent delays, has seen the entire section of National Road No. 37 from Paju to Gapyeong expanded and improved, reducing travel time from 130 minutes to 63 minutes and shortening the driving distance from 86 km to 73 km.
Accessibility to tourist attractions located in Pocheon and Yeoncheon areas such as Hantan River Sky Bridge, Bidulginang, Jaein Waterfall, and Sanjeong Lake has also improved, which is expected to benefit the local economy.
Also, at 3 p.m. on the 30th, the 7.0 km (4 lanes) section from Gupyeong-dong to Geoui-dong in Gumi City will open, completing the 'Gupo-Deoksan Road Construction' (14.4 km), which started in 2009 and invested about 448.7 billion KRW over 10 years.
The newly opened section is a bypass national road replacing National Road No. 33, which passes through Gumi City's urban area and the national industrial complex. It is expected to separate urban internal traffic and through traffic, thereby alleviating congestion on city roads.
The driving distance between the start and end points will be reduced by 1.4 km compared to the existing national road, and travel time will be significantly reduced from 21 minutes to 8 minutes.
