[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] As the United Future Party criticized the controversy over the regularization of non-regular workers at Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) by mentioning the 'Cho Kuk incident,' former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk expressed his position on the IIAC issue. Cho is currently involved in legal disputes over allegations of his children's admission fraud and obstruction of inspection.
On the 27th, Cho posted a photo on his Facebook. The photo is a poster from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) titled 'The Facts Are Like This,' clarifying inaccuracies surrounding the IIAC controversy.
The MOLIT explained, "The claim that the direct employment conversion at Incheon International Airport deprives young people of job opportunities is not true. The direct employment conversion target at IIAC is security screening personnel, which is a different job category from the general positions that job seekers prepare for. Recruitment for new general positions will proceed normally. The purpose of this regularization is to guarantee employment stability for non-regular workers."
By sharing MOLIT's stance on his SNS, former Minister Cho appears to support the government's 'policy of converting non-regular workers to regular positions.' At the same time, he seems to have rebutted the controversy over the so-called 'Moonbba Chance' regarding the regularization of IIAC non-regular workers.
On the 25th, Kim Jae-seop, Youth Emergency Committee Member of the United Future Party, held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Hall, stating, "Young people frustrated by the 'Dad's Chance' in the Cho Kuk incident felt despair over the 'Moonbba Chance' in the IIAC incident."
He added, "The hiring criteria were set as May 12, 2017, when President Moon Jae-in visited Incheon International Airport," and said, "Those who received the president's favor were hired regardless of the exams that job seekers prepare for day and night." Kim said, "There is a clear reason why those raising unfairness are angry about the lottery-like hiring."

Lee Hae-chan, leader of the Democratic Party, said in his remarks at the Democratic Party Supreme Council meeting on the 26th regarding the IIAC regularization controversy, "We must refrain from causing public confusion over such matters, which, while not trivial, lack essential importance." He added, "These days, we can see how much misinformation unsettles the public." This is interpreted as an explanation that young people's dissatisfaction with the IIAC issue stems from misinformation such as so-called 'fake news.'
Democratic Party lawmaker Ko Min-jung made a similar claim. In a post on her Facebook on the 25th, Ko stated, "Public enterprise job seekers complain that the regularization of Incheon Airport security screening workers 'takes away their positions,' and conflicts have intensified as 'fake news' claiming that annual salaries rise to 50 million won due to regularization spread in the media."
She continued, "Some opposition party members also joined the criticism, calling it 'lottery regularization,' stigmatizing the regularization of non-regular workers as a sin," and questioned, "Why belittle efforts to eliminate discrimination and normalize the situation?"
Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Du-kwan also pointed out on Facebook that day, "The logic that non-regular workers are taking away future jobs from job seekers is not only unfair but highly discriminatory."
Regarding claims that security screening personnel, who are regular employees, were converted from part-time jobs, he said, "Security guards have received training and have worked in the specialized field of airport security for several years; they are not part-timers," and added, "The claim that they are taking away job seekers' positions is also false. Since they perform security screening duties until retirement, they are not taking office jobs, which are mainly regular positions."
