MoEF and WB Video Conference: "The Role of COVID-19 Innovation and Digital Technology is Important"

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The Ministry of Economy and Finance announced on the 26th that it held a seminar on 'Responding to COVID-19 Using Digital Technology' in collaboration with the World Bank (WB) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The Bill Gates Foundation operates the world's largest fund aimed at expanding international health care and eradicating poverty.
This seminar was held at the request of the Bill Gates Foundation. The WB Korea Office and the Ministry of Economy and Finance jointly hosted the event to discuss Korea's cases of responding to infectious diseases using digital technology.
In his congratulatory remarks, Heo Jang, Director General of International Economic Management at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, emphasized, "Countries around the world must strive to maintain a balance between health quarantine and economic recovery amid the spread of COVID-19," adding, "The role of innovation and digital technology is essential for this."
Regarding Korea's COVID-19 situation and response cases, he explained, "It is necessary to utilize digital technology not only as a means of preventing infectious diseases but also as an important driving force for economic recovery in the post-COVID era."
In response, Andrew Trister, Director of the Bill Gates Foundation, evaluated, "Actively responding to COVID-19 early on by utilizing data and information and communication technology (ICT) is a model case that serves as a great example for other countries."

Meanwhile, a Ministry of Economy and Finance official stated, "We will actively share and disseminate our policies for responding to COVID-19," and added, "We will also actively participate and contribute to global policy cooperation activities in preparation for the post-COVID era."
