'Illegal Rally Near Japanese Embassy' Mom Unit Representative Fined 700,000 Won
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] Joo Ok-soon, the 64-year-old leader of the Mom Corps, who was indicted in a summary trial for holding an unreported illegal rally near the former Japanese Embassy in Korea, was fined 700,000 won.
According to the legal community on the 26th, Judge Jang Won-jung of the Criminal Division 25 at the Seoul Central District Court sentenced Joo, who was summarily prosecuted for violating the Assembly and Demonstration Act, to a fine of 700,000 won. Summary prosecution is a procedure in which the prosecution requests the court to impose a fine or penalty through written examination instead of a trial.

Joo is accused of holding an unreported rally on August 1 of last year across from the former Japanese Embassy in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Earlier, the civic group Anti-Corruption National Participation Solidarity reported Joo and related members of the group to the police for violating the Assembly and Demonstration Act, claiming they held an unreported illegal rally disguised as a press conference next to the Statue of Peace.
