China's state-run CCTV reported that in the early morning, a boat carrying 27 people sank at the confluence of the Lancang River and the Nanban River in Yunnan Province.
By noon, 17 people had been rescued, and rescue operations involving 16 vessels and drones were ongoing. CCTV also reported that one body, presumed to be a passenger, was found near the riverbank close to the accident site.
